Take Me Home Tonight Movies on Google Play

The film grossed $6,928,068 in North America, failing to recoup its $19 million budget. "Take Me Home Tonight" must have been made with people who had a great deal of nostalgia for the 1980s, a relatively unsung decade. The movie unfortunately gives them no dialogue expanding them into recognizable human beings. They speak entirely in plot points and punchlines and seem to be motivated only by lust, greed and ego. Well, we all are, but few bring to this motivation so little intelligence and wit.

Over the next 12 hours, Matt steals a car, tries to win Tori’s heart, gets confronted by his cop dad about his future, and hears pretty much every overplayed ’80s tune you can think of. The only person who survives this tired retread of Reagan-era references is comic Demetri Martin as a parapalegic high-school friend of Matt’s who’s become a financial whiz. But instead, we get the high-octane antics of Barry, whom Folgler plays in a way that fuses the intensity of both Jonah Hill and Sam Kinison. He’s such an unlikable, grating character that we just hope he’ll OD early on at the party and we won’t have to see him anymore. If you’re aiming for a sweeping generational statement, there are two ways to go.

He apologizes for being such a failure, to which his dad replies that, as he's never tried, he has never reached failure. He wants Matt to take a shot at anything in life. When Matt, Wendy, and Matt's best friend, Barry Nathan, head to the party, Barry steals a Mercedes-Benz from the car dealership he got fired from earlier that day, saying Matt needs it to impress Tori.

It's refreshing to see her in the smart girl role. Her relationship with her brother is surprisingly nuanced for an 80's flick. So yeah, it's between a 5 and 6 for me, but I'd be loathe to recommend it to the masses. Ok, the only reason I started watching this was for Anna Faris, but she didn't even have any comedy scenes!! Matt’s dad spends a few minutes trying to scare his kid straight when Matt and Barry, covered in white powder, wreck the Mercedes they’ve stolen. But then he just gives ’em a good clap on the back and lets them go back to their party.

They go into a neighbor's backyard where they jump on a trampoline, play truth or dare, and end up having sex. You want to impress a girl named Tori you lusted after in school. You lie and tell her you are a banker with Goldman Sachs. It turns out she's also in banking, and happens to know that Goldman Sachs doesn't have a Los Angeles office. Like I said, the format is not original but the content was well done.

Grace had a lot of involvement including crafting the story and producing the movie. The cast is loaded with other great actors in comedy including Anna Faris, Chris Pratt and Michael Biehn. However it is the young Teresa Palmer that really steals the scenes that she is in. Still Take Me Home Tonight is an underwhelming product. The 1980's is captured pretty well with the setting and the soundtrack but it is still a clichéd rom-com that really has nothing new to offer. There is very little humour and the story is just so generic that it is almost immediately forgettable.

Kyle and Wendy repeatedly tell friends about how they were caught having sex by his grandmother. When Matt runs into his high school dream girl Tori , who acts like he never existed, he tries to impress her. She invites him to a one-night-only mega-party hosted by Wendy’s boyfriend, an event that serves as a de facto, post-college, high school reunion in which Matt fears facing his much more successful peers. He teams up with Wendy and his best friend, the hedonistic Barry , to go to the party. Along the way, however, Barry steals a fancy convertible from the car dealership that just fired him for dishonesty and now the trio are also in danger of running afoul of the law. I was a little confused about if it took place in the 80s or it was an 80s party though.

Plenty of other laughs come from inoffensive settings or scenes, so everything is not completely horrible. Regrettably, though, the ending, where the protagonist escapes all consequences for destructive behavior, is unacceptable. The rest of the movie follows the wild events of the rest of the night. Featuring Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Dan Fogler, and Teresa Palmer, the film has a strong cast that's able to bring the comedy. The '80s aesthetic is brilliantly done, and completely encapsulates the energy and style of the period without being gaudy or meta. Additionally, the soundtrack is outstanding and gives the film personality.

This, and the movie’s lewd content and drug use, is unacceptable. Wendy, realizing Matt was right, breaks up with Kyle, who experiences a crying breakdown. Pondering his future while talking to Ashley, a Goth girl he met at the party, who tells Barry that maybe he should go to college. Outside, Matt boldly kisses Tori goodbye for the night cause he still has her phone number to call. Matt's dad, investigating the giant ball in the pool, smirks proudly when he finds his son's name tag.

Matt finally boinks “The Frederking,” Barry slobbers over the ta-tas of a redhead with her date watching, coke is snorted, property is damaged and the soundtrack blasts Eighties covers (“Don’t You Want Me”). Take Me Home Tonight captures a moment in time with sly affection. You keep waiting for the engine to rev up, but it’s stuck on idle. A wonderfully campy '80s period comedy, Take Me Home Tonight is hilariously entertaining. The story follows a video store clerk named Matt Franklin who gets a second chance to win over his old high school crush when he learns that she's going to a local Labor Day party.

Storyline

Topher Grace will forever be remembered as Eric Forman, but nonetheless, Take Me Home Tonight is a must see for anyone who is a slap happy comedy fan. The plot is loosly based around some popular films like SuperBad, College, but takes place in the 1980's, which makes for a decent movie. A party dare turns dangerous when a large steel ball—with Matt inside—careens down a hill and off of cars, then plunges down a steep embankment, through fences and finally into a pool. Barry manages to accidentally knock over every display rack in a music store.

Topher Grace (TV’s “That’70s Show”), the star and executive producer of TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT, describes his new R-rated comedy as a “lost John Hughes film,” an attempt to make a John Hughes movie for current times. Indeed, it plays like an adult version of Hughes’ teen-movie SIXTEEN CANDLES, only with adults facing the dilemmas. The characters are entertaining, up to a point, with most of the main characters, except for the protagonist’s hedonistic sidekick, meant to be sweet rather than just lewd or immature. Regrettably, however, although TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT has some of the heart and charm of the Hughes movies, its R-rated content almost totally erases the moral boundaries that made them special. The movie, directed by Michael Dowse, is one raucous night, one raunchy party, American Graffiti filtered through Dazed and Confused and the Shermer High films of John Hughes. For spice, add Anna Faris as Matt’s twin sister in a relationship with Chris Pratt as the jock dipstick ready to put a ring on it.
